From: Smithtown, New York
Diagnosed at birth, Lily was born with a great support system of people who are knowledgeable about hearing loss. Her grandparents, father, and uncle all have hearing loss, and her aunt, grandfather, and mother are all professionals in the industry.
Today, Lily has a cochlear implant and a hearing aid, and she uses an FM system in the classroom. Her biggest role models include her audiologist, Dr. Gerri Comptellio, and her mother who is a hearing aid dispenser.
Lily is a creative and active young student, who participates in swimming lessons and acting classes.
"My favorite subject in school is art because I like to make beautiful artwork," she says.
Her hearing devices benefit her in the classroom and beyond. When asked what her favorite sound to hear is, Lily responds, "Ice cream trucks!"
Lily is a HearStrong Champion because even at a young age, she knows how important it is to advocate for those with hearing devices. She even demonstrated to her classmates how her "special ears" work.
"I want to be a HearStrong Champion, so more people can learn about special ears," Lily says.
We are proud to have Lily as a Champion and look forward to the amazing advocate she will grow into. With Champions like Lily, HearStrong is better prepared to help young people open up about their hearing difficulties and ultimately change the face of hearing loss!
