From: Cary, North Carolina
When Bello was about two or three, his parents realized he had a hearing loss. For him, getting hearing aids as a child was a life-changing experience.
“When I had hearing aids, I started playing soccer with my teammates because I could hear and understand what they were saying during the game and the rush,” Bello says. “I now understand and am able to communicate with people around me, which has led me to create lasting relationships.”
Even when life got tough, Bello has always had a great role model, his father, to look up to.
“My father works hard to provide me hearing aids, a better education, and a better life. He has done a lot of things for me”, Bello says.
In addition to being a student, Bello is dedicated to making the world a better place. He is a part of the UNC Muslim Association, volunteers to shop for the poor, and participates in Feeding America where he prepares bags of food for people who live in rural areas.
Soccer is also a major part of his life. He is on the CASL soccer team where he plays midfielder.
Bello is a HearStrong Champion because he has faced great challenges himself, and now works hard to help others.
“I try to be the best role model and leader in my daily life,” he says.
When asked what he would tell people unsure about treating their hearing loss, Bello says, “Seek help. You are not losing anything, you are gaining something. You want to see what other people are saying and hearing.”
