Phoenix, AZ (February 3, 2015) - For the third consecutive year, the HearStrong Foundation and the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), one of its main sponsors, joined forces before the big game to shine a spotlight on overcoming hearing loss and the life-changing impacts of utilizing today’s advanced hearing solutions.
On January 31, representatives from each organization teamed to recognize audiologist Kathleen Favor of San Francisco, CA, and 10-year-old Alyssa Hoglund of Mesa, AZ, as HearStrong Champions at the NFLPA-affiliated Smocks and Jocks art action and charity event in Scottsdale, AZ.
Nominated by the AFA Balance and Hearing Institute at A.T. Still University, Kathleen has utilized hearing devices since she was five and is a life-long advocate of hearing technology and the various ways it can improve one’s quality of life. In 2014, Kathleen turned her personal passion into a professional one when she graduated from A.T. Still University in 2014 with a doctorate in audiology.
Diagnosed with hearing loss at the age of three, Alyssa, nominated by Gail Padish Clarin, Au.D., CCC-A of Cardon Children’s Medical Center, quickly adopted hearing devices and attended speech therapy to improve her communication skills. Passing with flying colors, Alyssa graduated to a mainstream school where she is thriving academically, socially, and athletically as a competitive swimmer. Passionate about educating others about hearing loss and hearing devices, Alyssa was instrumental in creating a family resource center in the library of Cardon Children’s Medical Center in Mesa, AZ.
“We are deeply committed to empowering our members and the public to live their healthiest, happiest lives,” said Andre Collins, executive director of the NFLPA Professional Athletes Foundation. “By celebrating two such accomplished young women for their determination in the face of hearing loss, we hope to have inspired many of our members to make hearing healthcare a priority.”
