When Kaylee's parents were told their newborn daughter had hearing loss, they wasted little time in deciding what was best for their little girl. "My parents wanted to make sure I had the best opportunities to do well and succeed in life," said Kaylee. "I have worn hearing aids since I was 3 ½ months old," said Kaylee. This familiarity with her devices has given her an extremely positive outlook on her hearing health. "She feels they (her hearing devices) are a 'must' in her life so that she can continue to do well in school and learn new things," said Kaylee's mother, Natasha.
Her positive outlook carries over into her school life, as well. Kaylee is a very hard worker who motivates herself each day to keep improving. "I have started to learn some sign language…so I can (communicate) better," said Kaylee. "She never (lets) her hearing loss get in her way, even with her FM audio system being an important part of her everyday school activities. You would never know she has a moderate to severe hearing loss with the confidence she portrays in her classroom participation," said Natasha.
When she isn't working hard, Kaylee is playing hard. Between basketball, soccer, singing, swimming and playing with her siblings and pets, Kaylee is determined to live her life to the fullest, each and every day, regardless of her hearing loss. "She wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up," said Natasha.
Because of Kaylee's belief in herself and her innate ability to inspire others with her story, she is a HearStrong Champion. "Kaylee is a role model for those around her," said Natasha. "She has even been asked to help another student in school who has been recently diagnosed with hearing loss and is adjusting to life at school."
