From: Walton, Indiana
Although he was just two years old at the time, Tate identifies getting hearing aids as a defining moment in his life.
“The moment my parents decided to have me fit with hearing aids made a huge impact,” says Tate. “It’s like the butterfly effect. You make a decision, and it could change your future. It’s definitely changed mine!”
Tate’s hearing aids allow him to be closer to music—something he is very passionate about. When asked what advice he has for those who have yet to treat their hearing loss, he shares that better hearing can help people uncover new passions and a new way of life.
“When you can’t hear, half of your world is shut down,” says Tate. “But the other half (sight) is still amazing! So why not have both at once? Maybe music is your passion because it sure is mine. Treating your hearing loss could change your life for the greater good.”
As a high school student, Tate has many friends and enjoys playing in his school’s marching band. Although he has developed great relationships at school, Tate’s dad is the most influential person in his life.
“My biggest role model is my dad. He’s bigger than life, you know?” says Tate. “He taught me everything there is in life, and he’s usually most protective of me and my hearing aids.”
Tate is a HearStrong Champion because he is both passionate and humble. He recognizes that there are so many people in the world who have amazing stories about overcoming their hearing loss, and as a HearStrong Champion, he can further dedicate himself to spreading awareness.
