From: Port Byron, NY
Nominated By: Rebecca Wantuck, Au.D., of Hearing Evaluation Services of Buffalo, Inc.
“I was born with a severe-to-profound loss,” said Danielle. “I wore hearing aids since I was one-year old. (I) started with (a) chest aid, then bi-lateral hearing aids. (Later on) I researched the cochlear implant and wanted the opportunity to improve my hearing ability.”
“I can hear speech much better in a group situation. Music is clear and, most importantly, I can hear my son’s voice. I feel included in activities and (it’s) easier to communicate with my hearing friends. I can hear voices on the telephone, which was not possible prior to my implant. I can interact with hearing and deaf cultures.”
Danielle has also found a passion for competing in triathletes. Throughout August 2014, she competed in three triathlons in Upstate New York: the Iron Girl on August 3rd, the Cazenovia Tri on August 10th, and the Skinny Man in Skaneateles on August 31st.
“I am able to effectively communicate at work and participate in meetings without having an interpreter. My speech has improved since my implant as it has given me more confidence in myself.”
“I would be honored to help others in leading the way to the many (hearing solution) options available. Communication is not holding me back.”
